Allison Cohn
Allison Cohn, LCSW-C is a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical in the state of Maryland.
Allison grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Disability Studies. Immediately after completing her undergraduate degree she knew she wanted to continue pursuing her passion in mental health and was drawn to the field of Social Work. Allison then went on to earn her Masters degree in Social Work with a Clinical focus in Children and Families from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work.
While pursuing her Masters degree, Allison worked with adolescents in a group home setting. After earning her MSW, Allison worked in Foster Care in New York City, where she gained tremendous experience working with high-risk teens and children coming from extremely challenging environments. In addition, she has experience in school settings by volunteering at the Frost School and interning at RICA. Over the past 5 years she has worked in an out-patient mental health setting for children, adolescents, families and adults. She has worked with a diverse group of individuals who have had a wide variety of obstacles and challenges. Most recently, she provided out-patient therapy through Sheppard Pratt counseling children, adolescents and adults in their homes and schools. Understanding the school system is a skill she incorporates with all of her students, helping them perform to the best of their ability while understanding how to help the school optimize each individual's potential.
Allison’s reliability and warm therapeutic environment helps individuals and families opening up about their wants and needs. Her practice is centered on children, adolescents, families and young adults, helping them work through difficulties through individual, family and group therapy while utilizing a creative approach. She works with children that have difficulty coping with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, family conflict, grief, poor relationships, behavioral difficulties, and mood irregularity. Allison strongly believes in an individualized, holistic approach to ensure all her client’s needs are met.
